The FA Youth Player Transfer Process via Club Portal

1. Notice of Approach

  • The prospective club must provide written notice of approach, giving the player's current club at least 7 days before any further steps can be taken.
  • This notice can be sent via email or instant message, but proof must be retained in case the league or county FA conducts an inquiry.
  • The receiving club may waive this notice period to proceed more quickly if both parties agree.

2. Initiating the Transfer in Club Portal

After the notice period has elapsed, or been waived - the new club can proceed using the FA’s Club Portal:

  • Navigate to the “All Players” tab.
  • Click “More” and then “Add Player.”
  • Use the “Search FA Players” tab to locate the player using their name and date of birth. An FA Number (FAN) search is also available.
  •  If a warning triangle appears during the search, this indicates that a notice of approach may still be required.
  •  Confirm that the notice of approach protocol was followed before proceeding.

3. Completing the Registration

  • Once the player is found and the procedural checks are complete, proceed with registering the player as usual, assigning them to a team, uploading photo, confirming parental consent, etc.
  •  The system will flag transfers during assignment to a team to ensure clarity.

4. Dual Registrations (Where Applicable)

If a player is to be registered with two clubs simultaneously (dual registration), the process is almost identical:

  • Follow the same steps up until assigning to a team.
  • Select “Dual Registration” instead of a regular transfer.
  • Confirm the start date and complete the registration.
  • This preserves the original registration while allowing the new one to go ahead.
  • A player may only play for one club per age group within the FDYFL.

5. Option to Reject a Transfer

Should the current club object, they can reject the transfer via the portal:

  • They can choose a default rejection reason, or provide a custom one.
  • Once rejected, that action is recorded in the system.
  • The approaching club may then adjust and re-submit the request if needed.
