FAVERSHAM AND DISTRICT YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP COMPETITION RULES 2026-27

The Faversham and District Youth League (FDYFL) rules apply with the following additions:

Only players registered in accordance with League rules are permitted to play in the competitions. A player shall not play for more than one team in the same competition in the same season. Any club/team playing unregistered or ineligible players will be expelled from the competition.

If scores are level at the end of the duration of play, there will not be any extra time. The outcome shall be decided by the taking of penalty kicks.

  • 5 penalties per team, taken alternately.
  • Each penalty must initially be taken by a different eligible player.
  • The shoot-out can finish before all five are taken if one team has an uncatchable lead.
  • If level after five each, it moves to sudden death.
  • In sudden death, each team takes one further kick; once one scores and the other misses from the same number of kicks, the shoot-out ends.
  • Every eligible player must take a penalty before anyone takes a second penalty.

An eligible player is a player who was still participating in the match when the final whistle went.

FA/IFAB Law 10:

  • A player on the pitch at full-time is eligible.
  • A player who is temporarily off the pitch at full-time for a legitimate reason, such as receiving treatment or adjusting equipment, is still eligible.
  • A player who has already been substituted off is not eligible.
  • An unused substitute on the bench is not eligible, except in the specific circumstance where they are permitted to replace a goalkeeper who cannot continue.
  • A player who has been sent off is not eligible.

Equal-numbers rule.

If one team finishes the match with more eligible players than the other, the team with more players must reduce its number of eligible penalty takers to match the opposition.

For example, if one team has 9 eligible players and the other has 8, the team with 9 nominates one player who will not take part in the shoot-out.

And once the shoot-out starts, every eligible player must take one penalty before any eligible player can take a second penalty.

If a team fails to fulfil a fixture for any reason other than pitch conditions or a school event that means they have insufficient registered players to meet the minimum number of players required to play, the game will be awarded to the opposition. The team cancelling the game will be charged under league rules (20B) for cancelling the game.
